Two autorickshaw drivers have been arrested for kidnapping a woman passenger, attempting to rape her and then pushing the victim out of the vehicle while they were being chased by the police in Maharashtra’s Thane district. An official gave this information on Saturday. The officer said that the incident came to light at 10.45 pm on September 8 in Mampada police station area in Dombivli of the district. The victim woman who was injured in this incident has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
Senior Inspector Suresh Madane said that after worshiping at a temple in Khidkali, the woman started going to Kolegaon Naka in an autorickshaw. When she sat in the autorickshaw, there was already a person and a driver present in it. Where the woman wanted to get down, the driver increased the speed of the autorickshaw and moved ahead while the other person sitting in the vehicle took out a screwdriver. He said the driver, Prabhakar Patil (22) and his associate Vaibhav Tare (19) forced the woman to take off her clothes and were about to rape her when two patrolling policemen, Atul Bhoiye and Sudhir Hase, heard her screams.
Senior Inspector Suresh Madane said that Hase and Bhoye chased the autorickshaw, after which the accused Patil and Tare, while running away, pushed the woman from the vehicle, due to which she got injured. He told that the woman is being treated. However, Hase and Bhoye caught hold of them at some distance, the officer said. One of them attacked the policemen with a screwdriver. Our investigation revealed that Tare is a history-sheeter. And cases are registered against him in Mumbra police station. Madane said a case has been registered against Patil and Tare under IPC provisions for kidnapping, criminal intimidation, assault on a woman and disrobing her, sexual harassment and other offences.
