According to NCP leader Ajit Pawar, the Maharashtra government headed by Eknath Shinde would not collapse.
After the Maharashtra Deputy Speaker was presented with a 79-page letter from the Shiv Sena (UBT) requesting prompt action in the disqualification of 16 MLAs from the Shinde camp, Ajit Pawar responded.
“The Shinde and Fadnavis administration would remain in power even if 16 MLAs are found to be ineligible. No danger exists to the government, he reportedly claimed.
According to the article, he said that even if 16 MLAs are found to be ineligible, the administration would still have a majority in the 288-member legislature.
During their meeting with Maharashtra’s deputy speaker Narhari Zirwal and assembly secretary Jitendra Bhole, a delegation of the Shiv Sena (UBT) handed over a letter asking for expedited action in the disqualification of 16 Shinde camp MLAs in light of the Supreme Court’s recent ruling, according to the report.
The statement continued, “The Whip of Shiv Sena (UBT), Sunil Prabhu, claimed that the UBT Sena delegation sent a letter to the Speaker after the highest court’s judgment stating that the Speaker may decide whether to invalidate the 16 Shinde camp MLAs.
Prabhu was described in the newspaper as saying, “Since the Speaker is yet to return from his foreign tour, we submitted the letter to his deputy.”
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena are now in power as a coalition, and together they have 162 legislators, which is 17 more than what is needed to establish a government in Maharashtra.
The Shiv Sena crisis has gained new momentum as a result of the Supreme Court’s judgment, with former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray pushing for an immediate decision to disqualify 16 party MLAs.
The Apex Court also criticized then-Gov. Bhagat Singh Koshyari, claiming that he lacked justification based on the evidence at hand for coming to the judgment that Uddhav Thackeray had lost the House’s trust.
