Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, would go to Khadikul village in the Purba Medinipur district on Saturday to assess the situation and interact with the relatives of those killed in the explosion at the illegal firecracker production facility, a senior official said.
Following her visit, the leader of the Trinamool Congress will attend the party’s massive outreach event, “Trinamool-e naba-jowar” (new wave in Trinamool), which will take place in Salboni in Paschim Medinipur district and include party MP Abhishek Banerjee, he said.
The official said that “the CM will be travelling to Egra to meet the families of the 12 people killed in the blast as well as those injured.”
The West Bengal chief minister is planned to travel in a helicopter, thus the district government has already put up a temporary helipad at Alipur in the district, a few kilometres from Khadikul, he added.
According to him, the area’s security measures have been reinforced.
