During a picnic in the Pune district of Maharashtra, a 45-year-old father and his 13-year-old daughter drowned while swimming in the backwaters of the Bhatghar dam, according to authorities.
According to a representative from the Bhor police station, the tragedy happened on Tuesday night when the victims, Shirish Dharmadhikari and Aishwarya, and other family members arrived for a picnic at Pasure village in the Bhor tehsil, which is close to the dam backwaters.
“The dead went for a swim in the dam’s backwaters. They were playing in the water when they drowned. The other family members subsequently called the police, according to the official.
“Thereafter, a search effort was started. The man’s corpse was found early Wednesday morning, while the girl’s body was discovered late Tuesday night, according to the police.
