A 26-year-old man has been apprehended by the police in Mumbai after allegedly murdering his neighbor and hiding the body in his residence in the Dharavi area. The incident came to light on Sunday when local residents, visiting the accused to collect maintenance charges, detected a foul odor emanating from his house in the Sethwadi locality, according to an official from the Shahu Nagar police.
Upon being informed, the police arrived at the scene and discovered the decomposed body of the victim, covered with a bedsheet, inside the suspect’s residence. An investigation revealed that the accused had invited the victim to his house on Friday night for a drink. An argument ensued, leading to the accused purportedly attacking and killing the victim on the spot, as stated by the official.
The suspect then allegedly seized the victim’s mobile phone and watch before concealing the body in his room. He had been freely moving around the neighborhood after committing the crime until the police set up a trap and arrested him, the official reported.
The accused, employed as a food delivery agent, has been taken into custody under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, the official added.
