Ten ardent opposition parties have pleaded with Governor Anusuiya Uikey to arrange a critical all-party conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in order to solve the growing ethnic unrest in Manipur. According to India Today, the alliance of opposition voices—which includes the MPCC, JDU, CPI, CPI(M), AAP, RSP, NCP, SS(UBT), AIFB, and AITC—carefully composed a petition and fervently delivered it to Uikey on Thursday, pleading with her to take their urgent appeal to the Prime Minister.
After the critical meeting with the governor, former chief minister of Manipur and prominent member of the Congress, O Ibobi Singh, said that they believed Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the key to bringing peace to the conflict-ridden state. “We believe that the Prime Minister of India (Narendra Modi) is the only hope for bringing peace to the state,” Singh said with grace. The 10 political party leaders listed below have decided to get in touch with you in order to arrange for all Manipur political party leaders to meet with the Prime Minister in order to work toward resolving the problem under his direction and leadership.”
Singh conveyed the gravity of the situation and pleaded with the Governor to call the meeting in Delhi if the Prime Minister’s itinerary would not allow him to visit the state. Singh highlighted the internal displacement of 60,000 individuals, bringing attention to their harrowing life in what he called “inhuman” circumstances inside relief camps. Singh characterized the ethnic violence as a six-month experience with a severe toll on lives.
Regretting the current climate of suspicion among the public, Singh emphasized that the only entity with the capacity to establish sustainable peace in the state is the Union government. There is a cloud of uncertainty and misery over the area as the Meitei and Kuki communities continue to be plagued by violent episodes, leaving a grim reality of almost 200 lives lost since the commencement of ethnic confrontations in May.
