Manish Sisodia, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party and a former deputy chief minister of Delhi, had his bail request denied by the Supreme Court on Monday in relation to proceedings involving the alleged Delhi liquor policy scandal, according to news agency ANI.
Charges of money laundering and corruption against the former deputy chief minister of Delhi stem from purported anomalies in the formulation and execution of the since-canceled Delhi excise policy. He has been detained by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) since their arrest on February 26.
A report that the chief secretary of Delhi at the time, VK Saxena, issued suggesting an inquiry by the federal agency, served as the foundation for the CBI’s first investigation against Sisodia.
After then, the CBI filed a case and started looking into it. In August of last year, the FBI searched Sisodia’s bank vaults. Sisodia had said at the time that the agency had not discovered any proof of guilt from Hai’s bank locker.
He was detained by the CBI for almost several hours on February 26. One day before to his bail hearing at the Rouse Avenue district court on March 9, he was taken into custody from Delhi Tihar prison by the Enforcement Directorate, which had filed a separate money laundering case against him in relation to the purported liquor policy fraud.
Both Sisodia and his Aam Aadmi Party have denied the accusations and called the BJP-led national government’s political plot to arrest him.
Another prominent member of the Aam Aadmi Party and Rajya Sabha, Sanjay Singh, was taken into custody earlier this month by the Enforcement Directorate after several searches at his home in Delhi.
In relation to an investigation into money laundering related to the Delhi liquor policy scandal, the top AAP politician was also detained.
Singh was instrumental in the creation of the now-repeated Delhi liquor policy, which favored a few suppliers and producers, according to ED investigators.
Dinesh Arora, a significant accused who became a witness, was presented to Sisodia by Sanjay Singh, according to the ED. AAP said that the BJP’s “nervousness” ahead of the polls was the reason for his detention, and he entered a not guilty plea.
