Two of the key roadways at the Bandra Kurla Complex will be closed until June of next year for the Mumbai Ahmedabad Bullet train project, which might prove to be a severe inconvenience for commuters and cause significant traffic congestion around Mumbai.
As the commercial center of Mumbai, BKC, the closure of the two arterial roadways from Diamond Bourse to JSW Center and from the trade center at Motilal Nehru Nagar to Platina Building is expected to affect traffic in the region. The region is immediately connected to the Eastern Highway and then to Thane and Navi Mumbai thanks to the new BKC connection, which was built a few years ago.
The Mumbai traffic department has determined various routes by which one may go to BKC in order to minimize disturbance to commuters.
Take a right from the Asian Heart Hospital instead of taking the typical route from Razzak Junction in Kurla to Diamond Bourse Junction and then toward Kherwadi to the JSW headquarters. In order to go to Platina Junction from Motilal Nehru Nagar Trade Centre, commuters may now choose between turning left or right toward the MTNL junction. Commuters may now turn left at MTNL Junction rather than taking the Razzak Junction to the Trade Centre route. People who go to the JSW headquarters through Kherwadi and the Asian Heart Hospital may now choose to turn left at Nabard Junction in the direction of BKC.
Traffic movement from Diamond Junction to J.S.W office and BKC Road Platina Junction to Motilal Nehru Nagar Trade Center will be blocked starting on Tuesday and lasting till the end of June 2024, according to a circular issued by Pradnya Jedge, Deputy Commissioner of Police.
According to sources, on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train track, a 21-km-long tunnel would be built between Bandra Kurla Complex and Shilphata station in Thane. It will have a seven-kilometer underwater route, making it India’s longest undersea tunnel.
The complex project encountered difficulties after the 2019 change of administration. The proposal was rejected and the go-ahead for land acquisition was not provided by the MVA administration, headed by Uddhav Thackeray. However, when the MVA administration was overthrown, the Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadnavis sarkar gave the project their full support and allocated land at the Bandra MMRDA grounds for a subway station and other bullet train infrastructure.
