Political Stickers and Banners Illegally Adorn Metro Pillars in Mumbai
Mumbai, May 23: Metro pillars along the Andheri to Dahisar Metro Line 7 and Dahisar D N Nagar Metro Line 2A have fallen victim to a wave of defacement. The pillars have been plastered with a plethora of political stickers, including ones welcoming Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, as well as non-political stickers. Such unauthorized activities are in violation of the Metro Railways Act of 2002, carrying a potential penalty of six months’ imprisonment.
The defacement of the metro pillars poses a grave concern. Not only does it cause damage to the property of the metro railway, but it also creates inconvenience for commuters. The stickers and banners are often torn, dirty, and pose a safety risk. Moreover, the defaced pillars hinder the metro railway’s ability to maintain the tracks and other essential infrastructure.
Expressing strong disapproval, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has denounced the defacement of the metro pillars and issued an appeal to the public to refrain from engaging in such illegal activities. The MMRDA has further affirmed its commitment to taking stringent action against those responsible for defacing the metro pillars.
This incident serves as a reminder of the pressing need for public awareness regarding the importance of safeguarding public property. Additionally, it underscores the urgency for stricter enforcement of laws to curb such acts of vandalism.
