Five people, including a Youtuber from Jharkhand, have allegedly been involved in two incidents of cyber fraud in Mumbai, according to a police officer on Sunday. An individual from Gamdevi in south Mumbai was defrauded of Rs 89,000 in the first instance after placing an online purchase for a tiffin, the official said. In the second instance, a guy from Gamdevi who was requested to pay his energy online on February 4-5 allegedly lost Rs 1.5 lakh.
“The method of operation remained the same, and the Gamdevi police’s cyber unit was able to trace the IP address to Jharkhand. On March 22, a crew was deployed there. Santoshkumar Mandal, a 29-year-old YouTuber, and Nageshwar Thakur, a mason from Dumka, were taken into custody “said he.
“One more individual from Deoghar in the eastern state was taken into custody as a result of their questioning. The guy who placed the internet tiffin order had been tricked by these three. On April 5, two additional individuals connected to the case involving the Rs. 1.5 million were detained from Koradi in Deoghar “added he. According to the terms of the Information Technology Act and the Indian Criminal Code, all of the accused have been charged with cheating and other offences.
