Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, said on Thursday that Mumbai is the safest city in the nation.
Fadnavis, who also oversees the home portfolio, was speaking during the launch of the Navi Mumbai Police’s Women’s Security Project. After the murder and gangrape of Nirbhaya in 2012, he claimed that rules in Maharashtra pertaining to crimes against women were strengthened and that women’s complaints are being taken seriously right away.
Fadnavis said that although there have been more crimes against women, it is vital to remember that more and more women are coming out to report such crimes.
No other city in the nation is as secure as Mumbai, he said, adding that women feel protected in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai because to the police’s quick reaction time and the Nirbhaya squad.
Due to the attentive and effective police system in these places, women may travel alone even at night, continued Fadnavis. The most effective use of technology should be made, he continued, given the size of our nation and our cities.
