A top government official said on Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would inaugurate the biggest housing project for economically disadvantaged people in Solapur, Maharashtra, next month.
According to Valsa Nair Singh, the additional chief secretary for Maharashtra, the project at Raynagar in Solapur is stretched out over 100 acres and consists of 30,000 dwellings, of which 15,000 have already been erected.
The construction of the largest housing project for members of the economically disadvantaged class is now nearing completion at Raynagar, Solapur. At a seminar hosted by the business group Naredco, the official said that PM Modi will be inaugurating it the next month.
She said that a household must earn less than Rs 3 lakh per year to be eligible. Each home is 300 square feet and would cost the recipients Rs 6 lakh.
The project is being carried out by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada), with help from the PMAY program of the federal government.
The beneficiaries, according to authorities, include unorganized laborers, textile and beedi employees, construction workers, ragpickers, and garment workers. There are seven housing societies in all.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch the multi-thousand crore Dharavi rehabilitation project would be inked very soon, according to Nair.
She said that once a cluster forms, the agreement would make it possible for related initiatives to be carried out all throughout the state.
Every project would need the signature of a cluster and development agreement, she added, since the state government is focusing on a cluster-based development.
At least 10 of these cluster projects would be “talked about,” according to Singh, who also noted that Kamathipura, the financial capital’s red light district, is being redeveloped using a similar strategy.
According to her, the new policy would promote “walking to work,” affordable housing, a better work-life balance, smarter homes, and the greatest technology available.
According to Singh, it would also encourage the construction of houses for certain groups, such as those for seniors and students, since the nation is expected to mature in the future and older people must be treated with respect and decency.
The policy, a copy of which will be made available to the public, would also attempt to address the problem of skilled labor, according to her.
The government is trying to develop an action plan for combating climate change, according to Pravin Darade, the senior secretary for the environment, who spoke at the same occasion. Twenty interns are collaborating with several government ministries as part of the formulation.
