The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is looking into the murder of a BJP youth wing worker, has set a new deadline of August 18 for the case’s evading suspects to turn themselves in or risk having their property seized.
According to police sources, a public notification of this has been issued in Sullia town in accordance with the court’s order.
The NIA had originally set June 30 as the deadline and issued a warning that if the accused did not appear before the Agency, their homes and other property would be seized. By the deadline, none of the accused had shown themselves up, but no action had been taken to attach their property.
In several locations, including Sullia taluk in the Dakshina Kannada district, the NIA team has already placed copies of the court order on the homes of the evading suspects.
Praveen Nettaru was killed, and the NIA has filed charges against 21 persons in connection with it. According to reports, five persons are still at large.
In connection with the investigation, the NIA carried out searches at the homes of members of the now-banned Popular Front of India in the DK district, seizing electronic equipment as well as other papers.
Praveen Nettaru, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), was killed by two attackers riding motorbikes on the night of July 26, 2013.
