Standing at a height of 182 metres in Gujarat’s Rajpipla district, the Statue of Unity is the highest in the world and faces the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada River. It’s not only a “static structure,” but it will “oscillate” in strong gusts, according to the engineering YouTube channel Lesics. However, don’t let these oscillations worry you.
The Lesics creator and IIT Delhi graduate, Sabin Mathew, clarified that the two big oscillating masses inside the statue, known as “tuned mass dampers,” would help the vibrations dissipate more quickly than they would if they weren’t there. Each mass is 250 tonnes in weight.
This 182-meter structure may be climbed to a height of 135 metres because this is where the top observation deck is located. Therefore, visitors inside the Statue of Unity may feel unpleasant in the event of a strong wind causing the statue to wobble. Nonetheless, the statue’s enormity will protect the edifice from damage and guarantee the security of its guests.
How it works:
The statue will swing in strong gusts, but the masses’ inertia will cause them to swing a little later. Essentially, there will be a tiny misalignment between the statue and the masses. At the mass-statue hinges, this relative movement will result in energy loss, which will hasten the oscillations’ end.
Lesics gave an example to clarify and suggested an experiment to better grasp the mechanics of “tuned mass damping.”

Those with an interest can build a basic oscillating mechanism. When you add another mass that can oscillate, the oscillations stop in just “5 oscillations,” whereas the conventional system takes more than “10 oscillations” to dissipate.
Know The Statue Of Unity
Hailed as a major modern marvel, the Statue of Unity is the highest monument in the world dedicated to commemorating Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India from 1947 to 1950.
The construction of this imposing building came to a close in the middle of October 2018, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over the opening event on October 31, 2018, which was also Vallabhbhai Patel’s 143rd birthday.

The statue represents more than a sizable building with a view of the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada River. It is a famous representation of Vallabhbhai Patel, often known as the “Iron Man,” who was instrumental in the fight for Indian independence and the subsequent union of the country’s princely states.
According to the Statue of Unity’s official website, the monument was built as a tribute to Patel’s impressive persona and serves as a reminder of his vital role in uniting India.
The world’s highest statue faces the Sardar Sarovar Dam, which is approximately 3.2 km away, in a lovely area.
