Pallav Gopal Jha, the deputy commissioner of Kamrup (Metro), carried out a campaign on Tuesday night in the Guwahati neighbourhood of Ulubari to evict and rehabilitate begging people and homeless people on the orders of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The effort was initiated when the Assam Chief Minister requested that the Deputy Commissioner provide the family, which was living under the flyover in Ulubari, urgent housing and employment prospects. The effort has been carried out in accordance with the Assam Chief Minister’s instruction for steps to prevent traffic accidents, according to Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha, and it would be continued in other sections of the city with the goal of rehabilitating beggars and other street dwellers.
“CM often travels to the city at night and observes the problems it encounters. For the last three to four months, Guwahati has been dealing with a brand-new issue—a significant rise in the number of begging people and homeless people. That presents a variety of difficulties. We are organising a campaign to deliver them to NGOs and government shelter shelters. We’re looking for an explanation for why they’re out on the streets,” he added.
