On Friday, G7 Finance Minister Central Bank Governors convened, and Nirmala Sitharaman met with K Georgieva, managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
She is in Japan for two days. In Niigata, the G7 summit is taking place.
In addition, Haddad Fernando of Brazil was introduced to Sitharaman by him at the G7FMCBG gathering. According to a tweet from the finance ministry, Fernando praised India for organizing the G20 presidency and for taking the lead on important problems affecting the world economy.
The two ministers spoke on debt vulnerabilities, building up multilateral development banks (MDBs), and digital public infrastructure (DPI).
Sitharaman reaffirmed her support for Brazil’s forthcoming 2024 G20 leadership. The country of South America will preside over the G20 from December 1, 2023, until November 30, 2024.
