Two men in an e-rickshaw were fatally shot on Sunday night at the Saifpur Karamchand Pur tri-section in the Hastinapur neighborhood of this city, purportedly because certain individuals did not like the second marriage, according to the police.
Nearly 30 kilometers from the district headquarters, they said, motorcycle-riding individuals opened fire on the two victims, one of them was the e-rickshaw driver.
Three to four individuals opened fire on Surendra, 40, who was operating his e-rickshaw, and Arvind, 22, who was riding along in it, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rohit Singh Sajwan.
The SSP stated that they were both taken to a neighboring hospital where they both passed away from gunshot wounds.
In 2021, after Geeta’s first husband passed away, Arvind married her, the family of Arvind claimed in a lawsuit.
Geeta married a Hastinapur native in 2002; he passed away in 2020.
Since Geeta’s former marriage’s kids and her brother-in-law disapproved of the current union, the couple began living apart from their community after being married.
In their police complaint, Geeta and Arvind’s brother claimed that Arvind was shot because of their union.
A complaint has been filed against Geeta’s kids and the sons of her brother-in-law, according to the SSP, and two teams have been organized to apprehend the attackers on bikes and other persons connected to the killings.
