The process of connecting your Permanent Account Number (PAN) and Aadhaar number is referred to as the PAN-Aadhaar connection. The linking of a person’s PAN with Aadhaar is now required by the Indian government. Your PAN will expire on March 31, 2023, if your Aadhaar and PAN are not linked. You will not be able to provide, intimate, or cite your PAN if it becomes inoperative, and you will be held accountable for any Act-related penalties for this failure.
Note that if your PAN card is not linked to your Aadhaar number, you will not be allowed to use it as of April 1, 2023. The 10-digit unique alphanumeric number will stop working beyond the cutoff point.
“It is required. Link it now, don’t wait! All PAN holders who do not come under the exempt category must connect their permanent account numbers (PANs) with Aadhaar by March 31, 2023, according the I-T Act. The unlinked PAN will become inoperative on April 1, 2023, according to a public advice released by the I-T Department.
How Are PAN and Aadhaar Linked?
In the Income Tax Department’s e-Filing platform, users may connect their Aadhaar and PAN in both prelogin and postlogin modes, whether they are registered or not.
Linking online: Go to the Income Tax e-filing website to connect your PAN and Aadhaar online (www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in).
You may also connect your PAN and Aadhaar by SMS by texting the following message to the numbers 567678 or 56161: UIDPAN is composed of a 10-digit PAN number and a 12-digit Aadhaar number.
Offline linking: Go to the closest PAN Service Center or Aadhaar Seva Kendra to connect your PAN and Aadhaar offline.
What would happen if Aadhaar and PAN are not linked?
You won’t be able to provide, intimate, or cite your PAN if it stops working, and you’ll be responsible for any penalties as a result.
Any outstanding returns will not be processed, and you won’t be able to submit an IT return using the non-operational PAN.
Moreover, inoperative PANs cannot get pending refunds, and inactive PANs cannot complete ongoing actions, such as those for faulty returns.
Once PAN becomes inactive, tax will need to be withheld at a greater rate.
