On Wednesday, July 3, the police in the Tamil Nadu state of Kancheepuram detained a 54-year-old Christian pastor for the sexual abuse of a young girl.
S Devairakkam was the accused, according to reports. Ever since her mother passed away a few years ago, the victim had been spending the nights at the Church grounds. The church employs her father as a gardener.
The girl was sleeping at night when the pastor sexually attacked her. The woman, distraught at what had happened, proceeded to her old house after leaving the church.
Pastor placed under judicial remand
Upon being questioned about her condition by neighbours and family, the girl revealed that Devairakkam had sexually attacked her. Not long after, the Kancheepuram police received a complaint.
On Wednesday, the police detained the church pastor and charged him with breaking several provisions of the Prevention of Child Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
After that, Devairakkam was brought before a local court, which remanded him to custody. The victim is reportedly a 14-year-old student in a government school’s Class 9.
Pastor repeatedly mistreated a child
According to a police officer looking into the matter, the pastor had abused the victim more than once.
Investigations showed that the 54-year-old guy had abused the child sexually on multiple occasions. The victim has been transported for a medical examination, and the report is being awaited,” the officer continued.
