On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British colleague Rishi Sunak spoke on the phone and agreed that a free trade agreement (FTA) between the two nations should be finalised as soon as possible.
When the two Prime Ministers discussed the FTA, several British media outlets reported that India had threatened to halt trade negotiations in response to the assault on its High Commission office in London last week.
Afterwards, the reports had been refuted by either side.
In reality, according to insiders, Modi discussed the security of Indian diplomatic missions in the UK during his talk with Sunak and demanded that the UK government take decisive action against those who are hostile to India.
Sunak promised of the protection of the Indian mission and its staff and said that the UK finds the assault on the Indian High Commission to be wholly reprehensible.
In the meanwhile, according to official sources, Sunak and Modi discussed the advancement on a number of bilateral matters as part of the India-UK Roadmap 2030.
The recent high-level interactions and expanding collaboration, notably in the trade and economic sectors, were welcomed, they said.
The subject of economic criminals who have sought asylum in the UK was also brought up by Modi.
He asked for advancement in the capture of these fugitives so they might stand trial in India.
Sunak was invited by Modi to the G20 meeting in September 2023.
The British Prime Minister acknowledged the advancements achieved during India’s G20 leadership and reaffirmed the UK’s complete support of India’s efforts and their success.
