After being transported to the hospital, he passed away from his wounds, the Kashmir Zone Police tweeted. According to the police, the victim was assaulted close to Janglaat Mandi, and shortly thereafter the area was closed off and searches were made to identify the perpetrators.
Police say they had opened a case. Omar Abdullah, the vice president of the National Conference (NC) and a former chief minister of J&K, tweeted his sorrow over the event, writing: “Pained by the news of yet another targeted assault on a civilian in the Anantnag district of South Kashmir. The murder of Deepak, who supported himself by working for a touring circus, is abhorrent, and I categorically denounce this terrorist assault. Deepak, may your soul rest in peace.
Deeply distressed by yet another assault on an innocent citizen in Anantnag, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti also tweeted. Deepu struggled to make ends meet while working at a theme park. My thoughts are with his family. This says a lot about the GOI policy, which has failed miserably in J&K.
