Now the relatives of policemen are also becoming the victims of chain snatchers. The latest case is of Bandra, where snatchers escaped after snatching a gold chain from the neck of a policeman’s wife. According to Bandra Police, Shivaji Gadde is posted as a constable in Amboli Police. His wife’s name is Savita Gadde. Savita was going towards Bandra station on Sunday evening while talking to a relative. It is being told that as soon as she passed near St. Teresa’s High School, suddenly two bike riders came from behind, pounced on her neck and ran away by pulling the chain. On Savita’s complaint, the local police have registered a case and are probing the incident with the help of CCTV footage. The Gadde family lives in New Police Colony, Bandra.
As per the information, Mumbai Police has registered 40 cases from January to April this year, out of which 33 cases have been solved. At the same time, in the last year i.e. 2022, from January to April, out of 75 cases, it has been said to solve only 48 cases. In April this year itself, the Mumbai Police registered 12 cases of chain snatching, out of which only 8 cases were solved, while in March, police were successful in solving 9 out of 12 cases.
In 2022, the police is claiming to solve 64 percent cases, while this year so far 82.5 percent of the cases are solved. According to this, the police have been able to solve 18.5 percent more chain snatching cases this year as compared to last year.
Former DGP Praveen Dixit, Mumbai Police said, “The incidents of increasing street crime in Mumbai should be investigated. To prevent this, deployment of policemen and use of electronic surveillance should be made. Where necessary, there is a need to keep an eye from drones as well, so that people can feel safe.”
