The first phase of the Pune Metro’s construction of two corridors was finished, and on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi signaled the start of metro operations on the finished stretch.
Important locations in Pune city, including Shivaji Nagar, Civil Court, Pune Municipal Corporation office, Pune RTO, and Pune Railway Station, will be connected by the new portions.
PM Modi put the project’s basis in place back in 2016.
How will commuters in Pune benefit from the new metro line?
The commuters from Vanaz to Garware College and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Phugewadi routes were linked by the existing metro lines. The routes from Phugewadi to Civil Court and Ruby Hall to Garware College will now have enhanced passenger service.
The Deccan Gymkhana and Sambhaji Udyan stations will now be linked to the Jangli Maharaj (JM) Road and Fergusson College (FC) Road, making it easier for the many Pune residents who visit these regions to get there.
Due to its proximity to the Ruby Hall station, the Wadia College Campus will benefit from the use of the metro lines.Ruby Hall station is also mentioned. Due to the anticipated seamless connection with the train at Pune train Station and Shivajinagar Metro Station, long-distance trips will also be made easier. Due to the metro stations’ proximity to the Pune RTO, District Court, and PMC office, those who frequent these locations would also benefit.
According to reports in the media, Atul Gadgil, director of operations for Maha-Metro, said, “The additional sections would link Pune (Pune Municipal Corporation) and PCMC through metro network. There would be more commuters who can easily move from Pune to PCMC and vice versa. It will contribute to a rise in metro traffic in Pune. We thus anticipate that after launching the additional lines from Vanaz to Ramwadi and Swargate to PCMC, around one lakh commuters would be using the metro. By offering feeder services to metro stations, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) would make it easier for passengers to get to the stations.
Gadgil went on to say that “the Civil Court Interchange station allows passengers to conveniently switch between routes, making it possible to travel from PCMC to Vanaz or PCMC to Ruby Hall with ease.”
how do you purchase them?
Following the inauguration, direct metro services will begin at 5 p.m. from PCMC to Civil Court and Vanaz to Ruby Hall. Cash, credit/debit cards, and digital wallets through the Metro app are the payment options for the tickets. The metro stations will also have ticket windows and ticket vending machines, and passengers will be able to reserve tickets through WhatsApp rather than standing in line.
Pune metro fares
Vinod K. Agrawal, Director (Systems and Operations) of the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited, was quoted in an article by Indian Express as saying that the fee for taking the metro from Vanaz to Ruby Hall would cost Rs. 25, while the trip from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Civil Court will cost Rs.
Agrawal said, “The price of a Metro ticket would vary from Rs 10 to Rs 35 at the most. In order to encourage people to use the Metro instead of driving their own automobiles, everyone will also get a 30% reduction on weekend ticket.
Regular commuters who utilize Automatic Fare Collection cards will get a 10% discount, while students will be able to purchase tickets at a 30% discount.
The Civil Court station connects the North-South and East-West routes, and it will be able to accommodate up to one million passengers while also providing necessary amenities. According to sources, a 30-meter-deep subterranean passageway links Vanaz and Ramwadi as well as PCMC.
After two months of careful testing, the Pune Metro administration recently installed the Computer-Based Train Control system in the Civil Court station. Every 10 minutes during peak hours and every 15 minutes during off-peak hours, the Metro will operate from 7 am to 10 pm. According to the reports, demand and the quantity of passengers will determine how often trains run.
There are reportedly 18 trains in all, but only 11 of them will run at a frequency of every ten minutes.
