The Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman was performing a massive performance when the Pune Police interrupted it abruptly, upsetting thousands of admirers.
It took place late on Sunday night. Numerous thousands of fans sang along, swayed, or danced to some of Rahman’s most well-known songs during the performance, which took place at a large outdoor venue close to the Rajbahadur Mills. Rahman has been a musician for more than 30 years.
However, at precisely 10 p.m., a senior police officer ordered the organisers to immediately stop the show because it had gone over the allowed time limit while signalling with a torch on the dark stage.
At that moment, 56-year-old Rahman was in the middle of his smash song “Chal Chhaiya, Chhaiyaa” performance when the officer approached him, pointed at his wristwatch, and demanded that the act cease immediately. The legendary music director obeyed.
The annoyed officer approached one of the musicians and informed them that if they didn’t wind up, they may face the consequences for breaking the time regulations as several musicians seemed to disregard the order and continue playing.
Huge cries of complaint came from the audience members who had been enjoying the music for more than two hours when the policeman rushed to the stage and said that it was time to end.
In contrast, Rahman, who rose to popularity thanks to the songs he composed for the film “Roja” (1992), calmly left the stage without creating a scene or any remarks.
The audience continued to scream in protest when the lights came on at the venue, but the music show had stopped and the location had been cleared by early this morning without any more negative incidents.
