Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, has announced that his country has a plentiful supply of cluster bombs and has warned Ukraine that it has the right to react if it uses these contentious weapons. Although there is recorded proof of both Russia and Ukraine employing such munitions, Putin stated in his first remarks addressing the supply of cluster munitions from the US to Ukraine that Russia had abstained from using them in the continuing war.
Prior to the broadcast, Pavel Zarubin, a reporter for Rossiya TV, posted excerpts from Putin’s interview on his Telegram channel. Cluster bombs were provided to Ukraine, according to the Pentagon, which saw them as a crucial tool for bolstering Ukraine’s push against Russian front lines.
Because cluster bombs have a high “dud rate,” which results in unexploded bomblets presenting a hazard to civilians long after hostilities cease, they have long been condemned by humanitarian groups and certain US allies. The US-supplied cluster bombs, according to supporters, have been upgraded to produce fewer unexploded rounds.
Ukraine has promised to use these weapons far from crowded places. The Ukrainian military has documented several Russian assaults in the continuing battle, including the employment of drones, cruise missiles, anti-aircraft guided missiles, airstrikes, and rocket launcher attacks. Various locations, notably Donetsk and Kherson, have reported fatalities, and the situation continues to be severe.
The Black Sea Fleet’s home port of Sevastopol was the target of a “massive and prolonged” drone strike, according to the authorities placed by Moscow in Russian-occupied Crimea.
