Delhi women appear to have taken a cue from their Lucknow counterparts after surrounding INDI alliance leaders Raghav Chadha and Sanjay Singh, flashing “guarantee cards” worth Rs 1 lakh, and demanding that they pay the money the Congress party promised during the election campaign.
In an attempt to win over more female voters, a group of ladies in Delhi encircled the car carrying AAP representatives Raghav Chadha and Sanjay Singh, who were en route to meet with Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena UBT. The women demanded that they receive the Rs 1 lakh in compensation that the Gandhi scion had promised them.
The development follows a long queue of women in Lucknow forming outside the office of a Congressman, demanding the ‘guarantee cards’ that were promised during the campaign.
Before the elections, the Congress party sent “guarantee cards” to a large number of homes, promising the female head of every poor family Rs 1 lakh a year.
Video footage showed a large number of Muslim ladies enduring the intense heat to wait in line outside a Congress office in Lucknow.
While some ladies completed forms to have the promised money placed into their accounts, others sought “guarantee cards.” After giving their information, some claimed to have received receipts from the Congress office.
To provide 25 assurances to about 80 million households, Congress started the “Ghar Ghar Guarantee” programme. One of these was the Mahalakshmi plan, which guaranteed female heads of below-poverty line (BPL) households Rs 8,500 per month directly into their accounts.
