Torrential rains accompanied by cyclonic winds caused widespread devastation in Nagarparkar, Islamkot and Diplo talukas of Tharparkar region on Friday night and Saturday. Pakistani newspaper Dawn has given information about this.
In the last four days, most parts of Mirpurkhas, Badin, Tharparkar and Umerkot districts received heavy rain, dust storm, thundershower and light, moderate and heavy rain, reports Dawn. Residents of three taluks of the desert region told the media on Saturday evening that hundreds of houses were destroyed in the incessant rains over the past 24 hours, rendering thousands homeless and killing a large number of animals.
The strong winds not only uprooted innumerable trees but also blew away the roofs of thatched houses across the region, he said. Residents of several villages said, “Some people also received injuries during the storm and rain.” Local officials said Nagarparkar received the maximum rainfall of 270 mm, followed by Mithi (196 mm), Diplo (175 mm) and Islamkot (143 mm), Dawn reported.
