With the absence of Rishabh Panta, who will be out for the whole IPL 2023 season, veteran Australian opener David Warner is scheduled to captain Delhi Capitals. Pant suffered several injuries in a terrible card accident last year. His recuperation will take some time, and he is anticipated to miss the full year of professional cricket. According to a report on ESPNCricinfo, Warner has been selected by the Delhi Capitals to serve as their captain for the next campaign. The southpaw joined the Caps in IPL 2022 after he parted relations with Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Axar Patel was reportedly another option brought up before Warner was selected as the temporary captain by the Delhi Capitals, according to the article. Last season, Axar served as the team’s vice-captain.
Warner had previously led Sunrisers Hyderabad, helping them win their lone IPL championship in 2016. The Australian opener captained his team in 69 IPL games, winning 35, losing 32, and tying two. He has a respectable record as captain.
Warner was the Caps’ top run scorer last season despite their failure to make the playoffs, scoring 432 runs at an average of 48 and a strike rate of 150.52, including five half-centuries.
Warner, who has made 571 runs in 11 Tests since 2022, hasn’t been playing at his best lately, particularly in Test cricket. He only scored 36 runs in the past three Test matches.
He missed the previous two games after suffering a hairline fracture during the Delhi Test against India last month. He has now fully healed and is back in India for the three-match ODI series.
On Instagram, Pant posted a video of his journey toward recovery in which he can be seen moving around the pool.
He captioned the video, “Grateful for simple things, large things, and everything in between.

Under Ricky Ponting’s direction, Delhi will start their campaign to win the trophy once again since this year they will also benefit from playing at home, something that has been lacking for the last two seasons. The Delhi Capitals’ Indian Premier League 2023 season will begin on April 1 when they take on the Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow.
