On Sunday night, Harmanpreet Kaur’s Mumbai Indians wrote history by taking home the first-ever Women’s Premier League (WPL) championship. In the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, they beat Meg Lanning’s Delhi Capitals (DC) by seven wickets in the tournament’s grand finale.
The Mumbai Indians put on a complete performance to outwit the Delhi Capitals in all areas. Issy Wong (3-42) shared the spoils with Hayley Matthew (3-5) and Amelia Kerr (2-19), enabling MI to hold Delhi to a meager 131 for 9. In response, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Captain Harmanpreet Kaur worked together to score 72 runs off 75 balls for the third wicket, preserving Mumbai Indians’ chances by patiently and cautiously developing their innings. Along with the Mumbai captain, the latter scored 60 runs off 55 deliveries, striking seven boundaries and adding 72 runs for the third wicket.
The Rohit Sharma & Co. team as well as the local populace gave the MI ladies a ton of support. The whole male Mumbai Indians squad attended the game and supported the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team.
A video of players Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Mayank Markande, and others applauding the women who won the first WPL championship was posted on the team’s official Twitter account.
Every female cricket player who competed for the Mumbai Indians in the competition had a moment of fulfillment. Nat Sciver-Brunt was one of them and was named Player of the Match for his match-winning score of 60 not out off of 55 deliveries.
The England cricketer stated the triumph was particularly significant during his post-game speech.
That was quite unique. I’m glad I was able to persevere when the going got tough. Harman and Melie relieved the strain I was under as I was attempting to become pretty harsh. I was certain we would succeed if I persisted until the finish. Nat Sciver-Brunt remarked during the post-game presentation, “We let up too many runs in the last three to four overs, but it kept the game exciting.
