On Monday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised the Supreme Court’s acceptance of the state’s OBC Commission’s findings, which cleared the way for urban local body (ULB) elections.
The administration promised to OBC reservation and acted within the Supreme Court’s deadline. “The Uttar Pradesh administration is committed to conducting urban body elections in a timely manner following the reservation laws,” UP CM remarked. The Supreme Court authorized civic elections in Uttar Pradesh with OBC quotas on Monday and ordered the State Election Commission to publish election notice within two days.
The Supreme Court approved the Yogi Government’s OBC Commission’s civic election findings.
This top court ruling has crippled the opposition’s efforts to block OBC reservation in civic elections.
The opposition petitioned the High Court for OBC reservation in civic elections to sway the administration.
The High Court ordered swift local body elections without OBC reservation, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the state administration was devoted to all parts of society.
The government then formed the OBC commission and appealed to the Supreme Court. On March 27, the Supreme Court ordered the OBC reservation committee to submit its findings by March 31, reversing the High Court’s direction to schedule immediate elections.
The panel surveyed 75 areas and delivered its findings to the government on March 9.
On March 15, the administration submitted the commission findings and recommendations before the Supreme Court.
