Prime Minister Narendra Modi has come under attack from Sharad Pawar, the president of the nationalist Congress party (NCP), who claims that during his campaigning in Karnataka, Modi used religious chants, which is not good.
When bringing up a religion or religious problem during an election, Pawar reportedly said: “It creates a different type of environment and it is not a good thing.”
According to the article, NCP leader Pawar also predicted that the Congress will win the state of Karnataka.
Pawar was reported in the newspaper as saying, “We take oath for democratic values and secularism at the time of contesting an election.”
“I am taken aback by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s use of religious rhetoric during the Karnataka Assembly elections campaign. Secularism is a notion that we embrace. It is not a good thing to bring up religion or religious issues during an election because it generates a different kind of atmosphere, he was reported as saying.
Pawar also addressed the current protest in Barsu village in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district, where some residents are protesting a massive oil refinery project, according to the newspaper.
“I met with members of the Barsu villager community. I’ll have another meeting with the professionals. I believe the villages should be given a voice in this matter, he was reported as saying.
