Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Wednesday claimed that the ruling BJP has made the election system corrupt and expressed hope that the Election Commission would hold free and fair elections shortly after the Election Commission of India announced the schedule for the Karnataka Assembly elections.
“The BJP has tainted the electoral process. The “Operation Lotus” has begun. They make large purchases. The election must be held in a free and fair manner, according to the Election Commission. We are hopeful that they will,” Siddaramaiah remarked. The Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, however, said that his party was ready for the elections and welcomed the Election Commission’s decision to conduct a single-phase Assembly election in Karnataka on May 10.
“We had anticipated the results to be announced yesterday or today. I appreciate that there is just one phase to this election, he said.
The timetable for the Karnataka Assembly elections was made public earlier in the day by the Indian Election Commission.
“On April 13, notice will be given that elections for the 224-member Assembly would take place and that the deadline for submitting candidacy papers would be April 20. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said on Wednesday at a news conference in New Delhi that the nomination papers will be examined on April 21 and that the last period for withdrawing nominations would be April 24.
Vote tallying will take place on May 13.
