Sikh community members gathered outside the British High Commission in Chanakyapuri on Monday to voice their outrage over separatists who supported Khalistan taking down the Indian flag from the Indian High Commission in London the day before.
Protesters shouted the cry “Bharat humara swabhiman hai (India is our pride)” and said that they would not put up with any disrespect to the national flag while carrying the tricolour and placards.
An arrest relating to the violent disruption resulted from a group of protestors hoisting separatist Khalistani flags and yelling pro-Khalistani chants grabbing at the tricolour atop the Indian High Commission in London on Sunday.
The tricolour is now flying “grander,” according to mission officials, who also claimed that the “attempted but unsuccessful” assault had been stopped. According to the Metropolitan Police, two security personnel had minor injuries that didn’t need hospitalisation. There is now an inquiry underway.
Inquiring about the total “lack of security,” India summoned the British deputy high commissioner on Sunday night. India considers the UK government’s disregard for the security of Indian diplomatic facilities and staff in the UK “unacceptable,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a sharply worded statement.
Top British officials have decried the damage at the mission as “disgraceful” and “totally unacceptable” and said that the UK government would take the security of the Indian High Commission here “seriously”.
A so-called “Referendum 2020” is being held by the outlawed terrorist group Sikhs For Justice in the midst of Punjab’s crackdown on pro-Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh.
