A 19-year-old girl student was found dead in her hostel room in South Mumbai, while the body of a security guard suspected in the case was recovered from the railway tracks. Police gave this information. An official said on Tuesday that it is suspected that the girl was sexually assaulted, but it will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report comes. The official said that the student studied in a government polytechnic college in suburban Bandra. On reaching the hostel room, the police found him dead, with a dupatta (stole) wrapped around his neck.
The officer said that an FIR has been registered in connection with the murder at the Marine Lines police station. The inspection of the matter is going on. He told that the security guard suspected in the case was found dead on the railway tracks on Tuesday morning. Earlier he was missing. The name of the accused is Prakash Kanojia. According to the police, prima facie the girl has been strangled to death with a dupatta.

In the case of the girl’s death, the police suspected Om Prakash Kannaujiya, an employee of the hostel itself. He was missing since Monday morning. After the police got the information at 5 in the evening, when the search for him started, he was seen going towards the railway station in the CCTV. There in the morning information about the death of a person after being cut off from the train was received. When the police called the father of the accused and got the body identified, it was Om Prakash Kanojia.
The police suspect that Om Prakash first raped the girl and then murdered her and committed suicide by going under the train tracks. However, the post mortem report is still awaited. Only after this it will be confirmed whether the girl was raped or not. According to Mumbai Police’s DCP Praveen Munde, on Tuesday evening the police got information that the door of a girl’s hostel on Marine Drive was locked and had not been opened since morning. It was not known whether the girl was inside or outside the room. When the police reached the spot and opened the door, the girl’s body was found lying in a suspicious condition. In the initial investigation, there is a possibility of rape and murder of the girl. That’s why the police are investigating the case by registering a case against the suspect Om Prakash Kanojia under sections 302 and 376 of the IPC and the body has been sent for postmortem. It is being told that the deceased accused is married and has a 12 year old daughter.
