An official said on Sunday that the Territorial Army’s (TA) female officers assigned to the Engineer Regiments would be stationed near the Line of Control (LoC).
Following Rajnath Singh’s assent, women officers will also be assigned as staff officers in the Directorate General of the Territorial Army’s TA Group Headquarters in Delhi, in accordance with organisational needs.
According to the Defence Ministry, this proactive policy step aims to both expand the range of female officers’ job opportunities and fulfil their career objectives.
They will now be able to serve and train in a larger variety of units and positions under the same circumstances as their male colleagues.
Since 2019, the Territorial Army has started commissioning women officers in the TA Railway Engineer Regiment, TA Oil Sector Units, and Ecological Task Force Units.
According to a Defence Ministry official, it has been agreed to expand the scope of future employment for female officers in TA based on the experience gathered during this time.
Officers in the Territorial Army get yearly training in fundamental military abilities while continuing to work for pay in the civilian world. The Territorial Army is based on the Citizen Soldiers’ Army idea.
Significantly, the military services have implemented a number of initiatives to advance gender equality, including giving women command positions, preparing them for future leadership positions, and allowing them to join artillery units.
