The Shiv Sena (UBT) attacked Rahul Narwekar, the speaker of the Maharashtra legislature, on Thursday for recognizing Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s party as the “real” Shiv Sena. The UBT said this recognition violated the Constitution by designating a “gang of thieves”.
The editorial in the Sena (UBT) organ Saamana, which also took aim at the governing Bharatiya Janata Party, said that the people of the state will not forgive those responsible for this.
Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut alleged during a press conference that while Narwekar was tasked with carrying out justice, he was really acting as Shinde’s attorney.
Narwekar said on Wednesday that the Shiv Sena faction under his leadership was the “real political party” when competing groupings arose in June 2022, and he did not dismiss any MLA from either camp—a significant political victory for Shinde.
In the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, the government solidified Shinde’s position as the chief minister, eighteen months after his uprising, and strengthened his political position within the governing coalition, which also includes the BJP and the NCP (Ajit Pawar group).
The editorial of “Saamana,” which specifically targeted Narwekar, said, “The Constitution has been trampled upon by recognizing the gang of thieves.” It went on to say that the speaker’s order was predetermined and that there was nothing shocking about it.
The Marathi newspaper said that “his bosses in Delhi wrote the lengthy decision by him.”
It said that the speaker was engaging in “dishonesty with Maharashtra” by giving control of Bal Thackeray’s Shiv Sena to “traitors.”
The editorial said that while Narwekar had the opportunity to make history, his choice “blackened” the face of democracy.
Raut, a Rajya Sabha member for the Shiv Sena (UBT), alleged that “match-fixing” was involved and that the decision was inevitable.
People are angry in their heads. Justice had been delegated by the Supreme Court, but Shinde’s attorney was Narwekar. He said, “It was advocate Narwekar advocating on behalf of Shinde’s organization.
Raut said that Narwekar is incorrect to refuse to acknowledge the party’s 2018 constitution since it has been submitted to the Supreme Court.
Raut said, “Narwekar acted as a worker of the BJP and not as the tribunal,” and that his party will take the case to the Supreme Court.
