Some stories seem unbelievable. Here is one that will make you feel the same. Hema Meena, a female assistant engineer employed by the Madhya Pradesh Police Housing Corporation (MPPHC), was the target of a search on her home on May 11 by the Lokayukta’s special police establishment (SPE) in connection with a case involving excessive assets. In addition to various other opulent goods, like a TV set that cost Rs 30 lakh, 20 cars, including 10 luxury vehicles, and more than 100 dogs of the foreign breed, the authorities recovered documentation about assets worth Rs 5 to Rs 7 crore from her possession.
The contractual engineer, Hema Meena, was receiving a salary of Rs 30,000 while accumulating all of these assets. She was discovered to have assets that are 232% disproportionate to her present income, according to the authorities. She is currently being looked into by the authorities for allegedly amassing assets that are excessive given her known source of income.
According to sources, a raid was performed at Hema Meena’s farmhouse in the Bhopal neighbourhood of Bilkhiriya as part of an investigation into a complaint about Hema Meena’s disproportionate assets that was made in 2020. The expansive farmhouse owned by Hema Meena featured 40 rooms, according to the Lokyukta officials. According to the probe, her residence was built for Rs 1 crore and registered in her father Ramswaroop Meena’s name. Over 100 pet foreign breed dogs totalling lakhs of rupees lived in the farmhouse on 20,000 square feet of land. Additionally, it had between 70 and 80 cows of various breeds. For her pet dogs, there were bathtubs, and roti-making equipment costing Rs. 2.5 lakhs was also installed.
According to Navbharat Times’ story, Hema Meena used to give imported alcohol to her pet dogs as a treatment after the Lokayukta team discovered bottles of foreign alcohol inside her home. In addition, the investigators also seized cigarettes and agricultural equipment worth thousands of dollars. The police also discovered that Hema Meena built a jammer at her home and used walkie-talkies to communicate with her crew. The Lokayukta police force has taken possession of the walkie-talkie.
Meena also owned lands in Raisen and Vidisha in addition to the 20,000 square feet of land in Bilkhiriya hamlet in the Bhopal region of Madhya Pradesh. The squad from the Lokayukta Special Police Establishment (SPE), according to media accounts, carried out the raid while dressed in civilian attire. The guards halted them as they reached the bungalow. The police made it seem like they were there to fix the solar panels. The team entered the building and approached Hema inside her house after getting past the security officers. They started the raid after taking her phone. The police compiled a list of the things they took from Hema Meena’s home during the raid. There were 450 items on the list, including a smart TV set that cost Rs 30 lakhs.
The TV was packed in a box and not in use. In addition to this, the engineer’s house also yielded a roti-making machine valued at 2.5 lacks, a high-end rotating chair, 12 water motors, a small crane, two vehicles, one tanker, and numerous ACs. 20 vehicles total, including 10 luxury cars like the Mahindra Thar, were parked in a sizable garage that was constructed on the property. The officials have also taken the automobiles. These goods are expected to cost somewhere in the neighbourhood of 1.50 crores. More than 100 dogs and more than 60 cows have yet to be valued in terms of cost.
The officials said that when questioned about the properties found in her name, Hema claimed that her father and brother had bought the land and donated it. Hema Meena, a divorcee, lives in the Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh’s Chapna village. On December 28, 2010, Hema Meena had her initial appointment with the Police Housing Corporation. She started carrying out this order on January 1, 2011. On May 3 of the same year, she did, however, resign from this job. She returned on February 22, 2013, after that. In July 2015, after working for about a year and a half, she left the company once more.
She re-joined on November 24, 2016, and after a year she was elevated from the position of assistant engineer-in-charge of MPPHC to sub-engineer. The contract with Hema Meena was supposed to terminate in May 2022, but it was postponed until October 2023. After the officials found assets worth 7 crores during the search for the contractual engineer, she has now been sacked.
