Anil Kumar Lahoti, the chairman of the Railway Board, assuaged concerns on Sunday regarding fire safety in Vande Bharat Express trains by claiming that these semi-high-speed trains had “very good” provisions in this area.
He was speaking with reporters days after a fire broke out in a carriage of the Vande Bharat train, which was traveling from the capital of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal, to New Delhi. No one was hurt in the event, which happened on July 17.
“The safety of passengers aboard the Vande Bharat trains is not a worry. Additionally, these trains have extremely effective fire protection measures, Lahoti informed reporters.
The battery box was the sole place where fire started in the Bhopal-Delhi Vande Bharat train. The fire was put out before it could spread because there were appropriate safety precautions in place, he added.
Lahoti said that they were reviewing the situation and will come up with a solution when questioned about the Indore-Bhopal Vande Bharat train only having a few takers. He said that the seat occupancy on these trains was more than 95% and that the ticket prices were the same across the nation. The conference in Indore was held to assess the rail developments in and around Indore, and the chairman of the Railway Board was there to attend.
