A customs official said on Thursday that three men were detained at the international airport in this city for allegedly smuggling gold worth more than Rs 3 crore into the nation by hiding it within their recti.
After arriving from Dubai on several aircraft, the suspects were detained on Tuesday morning, according to the official.
He claimed that the three had hidden the gold, which was valued Rs 3.28 crore, as a paste in their rectums.
The customs agent said that after arriving, two of the suspects dumped the gold and concealed it in a toilet tank cistern at the airport’s arrivals area.
The third passenger had concealed the gold inside a restroom of the airplane that he boarded from Dubai, and a member of the cleaning staff was to retrieve it, according to the official.
The trio was detained, and 6.5 kilogram of gold totaling Rs 3.28 crore was recovered, he said.
