Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, said on Sunday that he will file a defamation lawsuit against Congressman Rahul Gandhi for “inappropriately” equating him with businessman Gautam Adani in a tweet.
Sarma said that the defamation action will be brought after April 14th’s visit to the state by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Whatever Rahul Gandhi has stated on Twitter is a slanderous statement,” he said, adding that he had to wait to file the lawsuit since PM Modi’s planned visit to Guwahati on April 14 is still being planned.
“At this point, I don’t want to reply to it. When the Prime Minister’s visit to Assam is done, I will file the defamation complaint, Sarma continued.
Earlier on Saturday, the Assam Chief Minister responded angrily to Rahul Gandhi’s tweet connecting Adani to a number of former Congressmen, including Sarma, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Jyotiraditya Scindia, and others.
We had the courtesy to never inquire about where you had hidden the stolen money from the National Herald and Bofors scams. And how you enabled Ottavio Quattrocchi to repeatedly evade the reach of Indian justice,” he said to Gandhi.
“In any case, we’ll meet in the legal court,”
