The actress Jiah Khan, who was discovered dead in her suburban home on June 3, 2013, will likely have a special CBI court in Mumbai pronounce its decision on Friday.
Suraj Pancholi, an actor and the son of Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, is charged with encouraging Khan’s suicide.
On the basis of a 6-page letter allegedly written by Khan, who was discovered hanging in her Juhu residence, Suraj Pancholi was booked.
According to the Central Bureau of Investigation, Jiah Khan was the author of the letter that Mumbai police confiscated and examined as part of their investigation on June 10, 2013.
According to the CBI, the message detailed her alleged “intimate relationship, physical abuse, and mental and physical torture” by Pancholi, which caused her to commit herself.
After the sessions court claimed it lacked jurisdiction over the matter because the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had investigated it, the case was transferred to a special CBI court in 2021.
After hearing the closing arguments from both parties, Special CBI Judge AS Sayyad last week deferred making a decision in the case till April 28.
Rabia Khan, the mother of Jiah Khan and a crucial witness for the prosecution, told the court that she thought the case was one of murder rather than suicide. Last year, the Bombay High Court denied her request for a further investigation into the matter.
Rabia Khan testified in front of the CBI court that Pancholi used to physically and verbally assault Jiah Khan. She further claimed that the CBI and police had not gathered sufficient proof to establish her daughter’s suicide.
In his last testimony, Pancholi claimed the investigation and chargesheet were fake and that witnesses for the prosecution had testified against him at the direction of the complainant, Rabia Khan, the police, and the CBI.
Jiah Khan is well known for her role in the Amitabh Bachchan-starring film “Nishabd.”
