According to ACB authorities, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Thane traffic department has been detained by the anti-corruption bureau after being accused of accepting a 3,000 rupee bribe from an auto-rickshaw driver. On March 19, Thane ACB inspector Suresh Chopde, 57, claimed he arrested an auto-rickshaw driver in Maharashtra for breaking traffic laws and without wearing his uniform and batch.
After reportedly seizing the car, the ASI instructed the owner to visit the traffic police station with a payment of Rs 2,000. According to the official, when the ASI went to see the owner of the auto-rickshaw, he reportedly requested Rs 3,000 so that he could remove the vehicle.
After filing a complaint, the owner of the car went to the ACB’s Thane office, which set up a trap on Monday night and captured the ASI taking the Rs 3,000 bribe from the complainant, the man claimed. According to the relevant laws, a case was filed against the accused, he said.
