On the party’s founding day on Monday, the factions of the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray will be vying for control against one another.
The Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray-led factions of the Shiv Sena will be commemorating the party’s founding day at separate celebrations in Mumbai today for the first time since the party’s split last year.
Ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, both groups will attempt to portray themselves as the “true inheritor” of late party founder Bal Thackeray’s legacy.
While the Shiv Sena faction headed by Uddhav Thackeray will have their rally at Sion in central Mumbai, the Shiv Sena led by Ekanth Shinde will hold its event in Goregaon in northwest Mumbai.
Last year, Eknath Shinde overthrew the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition government, which was chaired by Uddhav Thackeray and included of the Shiv Sena, the NCP, and the Congress, with the help of 39 party legislators.
Later, Shinde became the chief minister of Maharashtra with the help of the BJP.
