Mumbai: Two passengers on an IndiGo aircraft between Dubai and Mumbai were detained on suspicion of verbally abusing flight attendants and other passengers while intoxicated, a police spokesman said on Thursday.
Once the plane touched down in Mumbai on Wednesday, the passengers were taken into custody and later released on bail, according to the official.
“The two accused are from Kolhapur and Nalasopara in Palghar. They began drinking alcohol they had purchased from a duty-free store to celebrate their homecoming after working in the Gulf for a year, he added.
“The two insulted the co-flyers who objected to the commotion as well as the crew who stood up for them. One of them was sipping alcohol as they proceeded down the aisle. Their bottles were removed by the personnel, the official continued.
According to the Sahar police station officer, they have been arrested for violating Indian Criminal Code sections 336 (for endangering life and safety of others) and 21, 22, and 25 of the Aviation Regulations.
This is the sixth occurrence this year when a complaint has been filed for disorderly behavior by flyers, according to authorities.
On March 11, a guy was detained for attempting to unlock the emergency exit of an aircraft between London and Mumbai while smoking in the restroom.
