Officials stated on Monday that an armorer with the Mumbai police’s Quick Response Team who was detained for allegedly shooting at two people in Thane did so with the intent to rob them and that he was up against a debt of about Rs 40 lakh.
Aziz Sayyed and Firoze Sheikh, cousins riding motorcycles, were injured on October 13 when a masked man opened fire on them close to Mainde village in Maharashtra’s Thane district, which is close to Mumbai. The attacker left the area after that.
Suraj Devram Dokre, a QRT armorer with the Mumbai police, was later detained in the Ahmednagar district’s vicinity of the Kolhar bus terminal (he is 37). According to police, he was charged with attempted murder as well as other crimes under the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act.
According to a statement from the district rural police, a preliminary investigation conducted following the scene inspection found that the shooting was motivated by robbery. The accused owed many banks and lending organizations between Rs. 40 and Rs. 42 lakh.
The announcement said that since he needed money to pay back the debts, he turned to robbery. He had already made two trips to Thane’s Bhiwandi and Ambadi, it was discovered.
The cops were investigating to see whether he had previously engaged in similar behavior. According to the announcement, the accused’s gun had been taken by the police.
