With companies in Bengal, the UK sees a chance for sophisticated engineering cooperation.
Peter Cook, acting British Deputy High Commissioner in Calcutta, spoke at the Oriental Chamber of Commerce’s annual general meeting on Saturday. He stated that the UK wants to see more investments made in Bengal and India in industries like engineering, ed-tech, health tech, biotech, agri tech, food processing, and information technology.
Collaborations become more crucial as the two nations negotiate a free trade deal that might spur exports, investment, and job growth.
“Ten UK institutions are travelling to Bengal in quest of cooperation on new technology initiatives, collaborations, and projects. We think that through educating people, we can provide the science, research, new discoveries, and patents that we will need to create the next technologies, stated Cook.
“One of our institutions is attempting to establish a centre for engineering research. We want to talk about how to restore India’s engineering capital alongside Calcutta’s companies and academic institutions.
“Calcutta used to be that capital of engineering. To do that, he continued, “we need to look at new technology.
