Tuesday night, when the zilla parishad seat counting took place inside the school, three youngsters, including two supporters of the Indian Secular Front (ISF), were shot and killed in Kantalia’s Bhangar II block in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
In Bhangar, which was the focal point of political scuffles leading up to the state’s panchayat elections, this was nothing new.On June 15, the last day for submitting nominations for the panchayat elections, at least three further people were slain in the block.
Rejaul Gazi, age 22, was one among the three fatalities on the counting day on July 11.The locals of Bhogali in Bhangar claim that Rejaul, an ISF member, was not involved in active politics.
ISF employee Bapu Fahim told, “We won and we were celebrating. When our candidate was expected to arrive with the certificate, we received a call from the presiding officer telling us that the outcome was incorrect and that we should go. Everyone went. Rejaul accompanied us as well. We then saw several candles as we were close to Kathiliya School and understood the bombardment had begun. Since we had done nothing illegal, we had assumed that the police would not shoot us, but Rejaul was shot immediately.
Rejaul is survived by his wife, his mother, and his four-month-old child. His corpse was stored in a field, and his family was sitting there sobbing bitterly.
Siddi Ali Gazi, Rejaul’s brother, said that the government was to blame for his brother’s death.
“My brother went with me, and they slaughtered him in an instant. What will occur next? This is the fault of the governing party. We were assaulted by thugs who were dressed as police officers.
Along with Rejaul, Hasan Ali and Raju Mollah perished in the riots on July 11.
Raju Mollah was shot outside his own home, according to the villagers.
All dead people’s bodies were stored in a field. Villagers refused to let officers get close to the corpses when they arrived at the scene.
Despite all stores being shuttered, the atmosphere in Bhangar is still tight. Some of the central soldiers stationed there informed News18 that they had never personally seen such things.
On Wednesday morning, when News18 arrived in Bhangar early, the roads were littered with explosives and spent rounds.
In Kashipur, the bomb squad neutralized an explosive. It is part of the culture there, so I’m not shocked, a resident told. How to proceed.
Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister, stated in a statement to the media on widespread violence, “Why things transpired in Bhangar? Central troops were present. They imported gundas from elsewhere.
On the other side, TMC state leader and BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikarion criticized the TMC administration and said the Chief Minister should be humiliated.
A Central delegation led by BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad conducted a study of numerous locations impacted by violence in the meanwhile.
