The Navi Mumbai Municipal Council (NMMC) came under fire from the populace for failing to provide the city with enough water for 48 hours. Residents who were experiencing issues contacted the government and requested an explanation for the protracted water service interruption.
Sudhir Dhani, 54, a native of Belapur, said they had to beg for water for two days, according to a report.
On April 6, the NMMC had declared a 24-hour water supply cutoff on April 10. The local council intended to transfer the Morbe main pipeline at Chikhale for the Panvel-Karjat railway line and cross the water supply mainline at the Diva-Panvel railway line below the highway bridge at Kalamboli, according to the article. The local body’s engineering department has made the decision to do repairs on the Morbe dam to Digha main pipeline and the Bhokarpada water treatment facility. On April 11, around 10 p.m., the water supply was due to be restored.
Reporters cited activist Anarajit Chauhan of Nerul as claiming that the NMMC might have started the project in the winter when water use per person is lower than in the summer.
Chauhan plans to submit an RTI to expose the inefficiency.
The villages of Koparkhairane, Belapur, and Ghansoli were the worst impacted by the water supply interruption.
According to BN Kumar, a resident of Koparkhairane, the water supply should have come back up by Tuesday at 11 a.m. “But, not a single drop was discharged even on Wednesday. Tankers were also not readily accessible, and the one we were able to arrange for on Tuesday hardly sufficed to supply 446 apartments. On Wednesday morning, we once again began searching for solutions, ” Kumar stated.
As this was going on, locals in other places grumbled about their unusable water. Veera Mudaliyar, a local of Koparkhairne, tweeted footage of the neighborhood’s supply of filthy water.
Top water department officials promised that the issue will be remedied as soon as possible.
The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has not enforced water supply cutbacks, according to Thane commissioner Abhijit Bangar. Water shortages are a result of the 15% decrease the Brihanmumbai Municipal Council (BMC) enforced in certain regions.
Naupada, Louiswadi, Kisannagar, and Kopri are a few of the places where the water supply has been reduced by 15%.
