According to a Police officer, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), who is accused of sexually harassing female wrestlers, has provided a statement to Delhi Police.
The source said that the police had also asked for other papers from him and that more statements will be taken if required.
According to sources, Singh has refuted each and every charge brought against him.
Vinod Tomar, the assistant secretary of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), is another defendant in the case, and the police have also collected his testimony. He is mentioned in the FIR that the Delhi Police have filed.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has also been established by the Delhi Police to conduct a comprehensive investigation. The ten-member SIT squad includes a female Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) among its members.
The official said, “The team has been established to collect inputs from various states based on complaints filed by female wrestlers.”
Famous Indian wrestlers who have won Olympic and World Championship honors, including Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, and Bajrang Punia, have been holding a protest at Jantar Mantar against WFI chairman since April 23.
Farmers have also shown their support to the wrestlers and joined their protest on Monday by traveling from Punjab and Haryana.
On the basis of claims of sexual harassment, Delhi Police filed two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) last month against the WFI director. The first FIR was filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code regarding the act of outraging modesty in response to allegations made by a kid.
The second FIR concentrates on thorough inquiries into the allegations brought out by adult complainants and utilizes pertinent IPC provisions pertaining to outraging of modesty.
