Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), explained that he chose to name two working party presidents to give the NCP’s leadership team ample help to manage the party’s activities across the nation. After designating Praful Patel and Supriya Sule as the NCP’s working presidents, Mr Pawar told reporters today, “Giving the responsibility of all states to one person would have been wrong given the situation in the country.”
When asked if his nephew Ajit Pawar would approve of the selection of Mr Patel and Ms Sule, the NCP leader responded that his nephew already handles several responsibilities. In the Maharashtra assembly, Ajit Pawar also serves as the opposition’s leader. He is renowned for having rebellious tendencies. At a celebration of the NCP’s 24th anniversary of the foundation, Sharad Pawar made the announcement.
In 2019, Ajit Pawar formally joined the BJP and took the oath of office as deputy chief minister during an early-morning ceremony with Devendra Fadnavis as the chief minister. Ajit Pawar departed the party office in Mumbai today without speaking to reporters and gave off the impression that he was unhappy with the announcement. Mr Patel expressed his intention to keep working hard for the party while appearing stunned by the announcement.
Since 1999, I have collaborated with Pawar Saheb. For me, this is therefore nothing new. Of course, I’m pleased to have been given the position of working president. I’ll keep working to expand the party’s influence, said Mr Patel. Additionally, Mr Patel was appointed by Pawar as the NCP’s point person for Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Goa, and the Rajya Sabha. Ms Sule will oversee NCP operations in the states of Maharashtra, Haryana, and Punjab as well as matters about women, youth, students, and the Lok Sabha.
“I am grateful to NCP President Pawar Saheb and all the senior leaders, party colleagues, party workers, and well-wishers of NCP for bestowing this huge responsibility of working president along with Praful Patel bhai,” Ms Sule wrote in a tweet. Sharad Pawar has virtually forced Ajit Pawar to report to Ms Sule on party matters now that she is in control of Maharashtra, which could cause unrest in the NCP.
After being expelled from Congress for bringing up a matter involving Sonia Gandhi, the then-President of the Congress, Sharad Pawar, Tariq Anwar, and PA Sangma founded the NCP in June 1999.
